Chronic Pain
The International Association for the Study of Pain states that pain is
“An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage”
Few people understand that There is no specific nerve receptor in your body that transmits a “Pain” signal. Our bodies have multiple types of nerve receptors that send info to our brain (for example; what is Light, Sound, Smell and Touch) but pain is not perceived by nerve receptors. Pain is perceived when your emotional brain tells you that it is pain. At Georgia Chiropractic Neurology Center, we understand the complex relationship between the brain and pain.
For example, Phantom Limb pain is when a person feels pain in the limb that is no longer there. This is a clear sign of brain-based pain
Often, people with Brain Based Pain experience going to the doctor and being told that their pain is NOT real. They are told that the pain is all in their head because no injury was found on the MRI or X-ray. The person is either given medication to cope with the pain they say it is “all in their head” or sent to a therapist.
Here at Georgia Chiropractic Neurology Center, our Doctors are trained to understand what parts of a person's pain is coming from the body and what aspects of the pain are brain based
But this pain is physical NOT psychological. It is a physical alteration of brain activation that causes the pain
Most people will see a specialist for their specific injury, but the problem with this is, the specialist is only looking through the lens of their specific expertise and may miss seeing the whole picture.
If the treatments do not address all of the different problem areas people will often only experience partial relief and continue to live life with chronic pain.
Chronic pain syndromes are the cause of debilitating suffering for many individuals. We understand how to help people heal from chronic pain because our doctors examine and treat the whole person.
At Georgia Chiropractic Neurology Center, we understand the intricate relationship between the brain, body and chronic pain. We pride ourselves on having a diverse skill set that allows us to treat any injured part of the body or brain and to know what treatment is best for each individual. We do not treat people with protocols that “work for everyone” but instead we treat people as individuals with individual needs.
